Hey, you don’t always have to head to a blacksmith to get your tools sharpened.

Sometimes, the stuff you have in your pantry can do the trick.

Believe it or not, eggshells can be helpful.

If you keep a few clean, dry shells, crush them a bit, and cut through them with your scissors, the fine grit in the shell works like a natural abrasive.

It won’t save scissors that are super dull, but it’s a fun and quick way to maintain a decent edge between proper sharpenings.

Besides eggshells, there are easier things you can use to sharpen your scissors, like folding a piece of aluminum foil and just snipping a bit.

For a sharper blade, use sandpaper with the rough side up. It polishes the blades while sharpening.

Try the glass jar trick – just open your scissors and slide each blade along the neck of a glass jar.

How to tell if your knife needs sharpening:

1)To test your knife, look for a round food with a slick surface: a tomato, an onion with the peel still on, or any fruits.

You should be able to slice into the surface with minimal pressure.

2)The knife shouldn’t roll off the slick surface. If you find yourself sawing or using the tip of the knife to break through, your knife is too dull.

If your knife is sharp, it should make clean cuts that help the round food maintain its shape.

Easy Hacks To Sharpen Knife Blades At Home

1)Ceramic mug – Glide the blade against the unpolished ceramic bottom. It’s one of the simplest ways to sharpen dull knives.

2)Newspaper – A page from the newspaper with black ink is all you need. Just run your knife over the newspaper a few times while keeping it flat.

Do this slowly and steadily.

Guidelines To Keep The Knife Safe

1)Make sure to dry the knives right away to keep them from rusting. Just grab a dry towel and wipe it across the blade at a right angle.

2)Opt for cutting board materials like wood or plastic instead of metal ones like granite, aluminum, or stainless steel.

3)Always store your knives covered, preferably in a utensil drawer.

4)Avoid scraping them on the cutting board.

5)It’s best to handwash knives since the dishwasher’s wash cycle can damage the blade or the detergent might be too harsh.
