On Monday, February 9, 2026, double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker made a spectacular comeback by winning a silver medal in the 25-meter pistol final, just five days after placing seventh in the 10-meter air pistol final at the Asian Shooting Championships.

Match Summary

Manu started off slowly in the final, with Esha and Nguyen taking the lead.

However, during the ninth elimination series, Esha missed five shots, allowing Manu to move up to the silver medal position.

She narrowly lost a hard-fought final that went to a shoot-off against Vietnam’s Thuy Trang Nguyen.

Manu breezed through the qualification round with a score of 584 and ended up winning the silver medal with a score of 35.

She was tied with Nguyen at 35 but lost the second shootout after missing three targets, finishing in second place.

Although Manu has a collection of medals from the 10m air pistol event, she has struggled in the 25m pistol finals, including at the Paris Olympics.

For context, this marks her first individual silver medal in the 25m Pistol event.

Before this, she had earned two bronze medals at the ISSF World Cups in 2021 and 2023.

In the 25m event, Manu has faced various pistol-related challenges over the years, with the most notable being the Tokyo Olympics, where her pistol’s cocking lever broke during qualification.

Last year, she traveled to the workshop of Italian pistol-makers Pardini to find a new and improved weapon.

So far, Manu has participated in a few tournaments with the new gun and is still getting used to it.

2026 is set to be a big year for Indian shooters, especially with the Asian Games coming up and the qualification for the 2028 LA Olympics kicking off on July 31st.
