Vitamin D, often referred to as the ‘sunshine vitamin’, is a crucial nutrient that aids in keeping bones healthy, boosts immune function, and enhances overall well-being. The body naturally generates this nutrient when it gets sunlight.

Spending a little time in the sun early in the morning is really good for your health!
Certain foods are also rich in vitamin D. Even though it’s super important, a lot of people around the world are lacking in vitamin D.

Getting some sun is the best way to naturally make vitamin D. Spending 15 to 30 minutes in the sun, exposing your face, arms, and hands without sunscreen, two to three times a week. You should try to soak up about 15 to 20 minutes of sunlight each day, with more than 40% of your skin showing to help avoid vitamin D deficiency.

People need to include vitamin D-rich foods in the diet to avoid deficiency. Oily fish like salmon, sardines, herring, and mackerel, along with red meat, liver (which isn’t safe for pregnant women), egg yolks, and fortified items like certain fat spreads and breakfast cereals, are all great sources of vitamin D.

People who don’t soak up enough sun or don’t get enough nutrients from their food are usually advised to consider supplements. But, it’s crucial to have a chat with your doctor before starting any supplements.

So, how can you tell if you’re getting enough vitamin D? Well, if you spend time in the sun and have a diet that’s loaded with the foods mentioned earlier, you’re likely getting enough vitamin D.
