Rising stars Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre dazzled with the bat following a solid bowling display, leading India to a six-wicket victory over England in the first Youth ODI of their Under-19 tour on Friday.

India’s bowling attack, spearheaded by the spin pair of Kanishk Chouhan (3 for 20) and Mohamed Enaan (2 for 37), along with seamers R.S. Ambrish (2 for 24) and Henil Patel (2 for 41), worked brilliantly to dismiss England for 174 in 42.2 overs, even with a determined fifty from Rocky Flintoff (56 off 90 balls).

In pursuit of 175, India kicked off with an explosive start thanks to Suryavanshi (48 off 18 balls, 3 fours, 5 sixes) and Mhatre (21), who quickly reached 70 runs without losing a wicket in just seven overs. Once they were out, vice-captain Abhigyan Kundu wrapped up the chase with an unbeaten 45 (34 balls, 4 fours, 1 six), leading India to victory in only 24 overs.

Wearing the famous No. 18 jersey, 14-year-old Suryavanshi, who dazzled in IPL 2025 with 252 runs over seven matches for Rajasthan Royals, including a record-setting 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans, seemed to be in great form. He smashed three sixes off Jack Home in the sixth over and took apart James Minto to score 48 runs off just 18 balls.

The scores: England U-19 174 in 42.2 overs (Rocky Flintoff 56, Kanishk Chouhan 3/20) lost to India U-19 178/4 in 24 overs (Suryavanshi 48).
