OpenAI just launched record mode on ChatGPT Plus for Mac users. This new feature makes it super easy for users to summarize and grab key insights from meetings and voice notes, helping to streamline their workflow.
Previously, it was only accessible to Edu, Enterprise, and Team users. But now, OpenAI has opened it up for individual Mac users who have Plus subscriptions.
The record mode allows users to transcribe system audio, which includes meetings and voice notes that can later be summarized into notes. This feature was launched on July 16.
“Plus users, the mic is yours. Record mode is now available to ChatGPT Plus users worldwide in the macOS desktop app”, the company announced on its official Twitter account.
Record Mode
This feature adds a little round button in the ChatGPT macOS app. When activated, it picks up the local audio from your system, like meetings and voice memos. You don’t have to join a call or online meeting as a participant for it to work. Later on, it sends the audio to OpenAI’s server, which then transcribes and organizes it into text.
ChatGPT organizes the transcripts into canvases that are stored in the chat history. The tool’s goal is to turn passive audio input into useful summaries.
Since the model processes audio locally before uploading, taking notes becomes effortless. That said, users should exercise caution.
The transcripts can serve as emails, project plans, or even code. OpenAI states that ChatGPT can refer back to earlier canvases and transcripts to give responses that are more in tune with the context.
How To Use This Feature
- To kick off recording, just hit the record icon at the bottom of the chat. The first time you use it, you’ll need to allow access to your microphone to start recording.
- ChatGPT will live-transcribe while you talk, and you’ll see a timer showing how much time has passed, allowing you to pause or resume whenever you want. If you want to pause the recording for a bit, just click the Stop button. A prompt will pop up asking if you want to resume the recording or send the transcription to ChatGPT for a summary.
- You can also cancel or delete the recording by clicking the ‘X’ button in the top left corner of the window.
- Once you hit ‘send’, the transcript gets uploaded to ChatGPT, which then opens a private canvas with a summary of your recording.
- You can also tweak the summary of key notes that ChatGPT provides manually.
The company introduced its impressive ChatGPT agent that can handle complex tasks automatically. This agent can do a variety of things, from web browsing to making presentations.
As per OpenAI, the ChatGPT agent is a tool designed to carry out any task for the user using its virtual computer.
