Alcaraz and Sinner have gone head to head for titles this season in Rome, Roland Garros, and Wimbledon, with the Italian taking home their latest trophy from the All England Club last month.

Top ranked Jannik Sinner and fierce competitor Carlos Alcaraz are set to clash in a big final for the fourth time this season, as both secured straight set victories to reach the title match at the ATP-WTA Cincinnati Open on Saturday (August 16, 2025).

Defending champ Sinner totally dominated 136th-ranked qualifier Terence Atmane with a score of 7-6 (7/4), 6-2. Meanwhile, Spanish second seed Alcaraz took down a struggling Alexander Zverev, who was really feeling the effects of the 32 Celsius heat and humidity, winning 6-4, 6-3.

Sinner, who just turned 24, put an end to Frenchman Atmane’s impressive journey and is now aiming to be the first player since Roger Federer in 2014-15 to clinch consecutive titles in Cincinnati.

Sinner, gearing up for the US Open in his first competition since his Wimbledon victory, has not lost a single set on his way to the final.

“Every time you face a new opponent, it’s a really tough challenge. When you reach the later rounds of the tournament, the pressure mounts, and they’ve earned their spot”, Sinner mentioned.

Alcaraz is set to compete in his second Cincy final after falling to Novak Djokovic in 2023. The Spaniard has boosted his ATP season match win total to 53 this year, during which he has secured five titles.

Alcaraz managed to break Zverev once in the first set to take it, but the German, who has diabetes, started feeling unwell and took a medical timeout off the court after the third game of the second set.

Zverev, who has only pulled out of two matches since 2014, returned to wrap up what was a shaky performance from Alcaraz, who double faulted four times in the second game of the second set but managed to win the last 12 points while Zverev was clearly exhausted.

“We started off strong with some great rallies, at a good level. Then suddenly he seemed to be struggling, and I found myself focusing more on how he was doing rather than playing my best tennis. It was challenging, and I just wish him all the best”, Alcaraz mentioned.

Alcaraz mentioned that he’s eager to seek revenge on Sinner at Wimbledon during the unusual Monday final.

“We always bring our A game. We elevate each other’s performance. I’m prepared to take on the challenge. I’ll work on fine tuning my game and fixing the mistakes I made in our previous match. I want to be at my best. Mentally, I’m all set. I can’t wait for Monday”, Alcaraz stated.

Atmane handed birthday boy Sinner a Pokemon card just before they hit the court, but his generosity faded once the match began.

Sinner only dropped three points in his first six service games, leading them to a tiebreaker without either player facing a break point.

Atmane double faulted on the first point of the decider, allowing Sinner to take off, racing to a 5-2 lead and clinching the set on his second chance.

“I focused on my own game, how I typically play, and then adjusted a bit to his style. That’s precisely what I did today”, Sinner explained.

“The pressure was on me. That’s just part of being in my position,  he was ready to battle”.

“My ultimate goal has always been the US Open, but we’ve put in the effort here, in the gym and during practice. I just hope to be prepared for New York”.

Atmane, who is expected to break into the top 70 in the world rankings, became Sinner’s 22nd consecutive French victim since May 2021, when he lost to Arthur Rinderknech in Lyon.
