World Champion D Gukesh settled for a draw with Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France during the fourth round of the Sinquefield Cup in St. Louis.

Indian grandmaster R Praggnanadhaa had a straightforward draw against Samuel Sevian from the United States.

Fabiano Caruana from the U.S. clinched his second win in two days, taking down Nodirbek Abdusattorov of Uzbekistan in the only game that had a clear winner today.

With five rounds remaining, Caruana jumped into the lead with three points from four games, closely followed by Praggnanandhaa and Aronian, both at 2.5 points each.

In the fourth position, five players – Wesley, Firouzja, Vachier-Lagrave, Sevian, and Gukesh are tied with two points each.

Duda is just half a point behind, while Abdusattorov sits at the bottom of the standings with only half a point.

Praggnanandhaa went up against the Queen’s gambit declined while playing white but couldn’t really challenge Sevian.The middle game had a lot of pieces swapping sides, and it quickly led to a drawn endgame on the board.

Gukesh also struggled to capitalize on his white pieces as Vachier-Lagrave put up a strong fight in another Queen pawn game of the day.

The Queens were exchanged early on, and even though things got a bit tricky, both players managed to hold their ground.

The resulting rook endgame didn’t offer much hope, with each player having just one pawn, leading to a fair draw.

The tournament, featuring nine rounds with 10 players, boasts a total prize pool of $350,000.
