At 38, Djokovic made history by becoming the oldest player to reach the quarter finals in all four Grand Slam tournaments in one season.

Novak Djokovic was sailing smoothly with a solid early advantage in his U.S. Open fourth round match on Sunday night.

When he began to feel some discomfort in his neck. However, that didn’t hold him back from overpowering 144th-ranked qualifier Jan-Lennard Struff with a score of 6-3, 6-3, 6-2, allowing him to reach his record setting 64th Grand Slam quarterfinal.

Djokovic was leading 4-0, 15-love when he executed a beautifully angled volley winner to take a 30-love lead in that game.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion quickly reached for the back of his neck and began to turn his head.

The 38 year old Djokovic was constantly trying to stretch his neck or flex his right shoulder between points, and he ended up losing that game and the next one as well.

He quickly got back on track against Struff, who had just beaten Frances Tiafoe in the previous round and was aiming for his first major quarterfinal.

After improving to 8-0 against Struff, Djokovic now heads into his quarterfinal on Tuesday with a perfect 10-0 record against him, facing off against 2024 U.S. Open runner up Taylor Fritz.

The No. 4-seeded Fritz, the last American man left in the tournament, advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 win on Sunday over No. 21 Tomas Machac from the Czech Republic.

After Djokovic wrapped up that first set against Struff, a trainer came over to give him some treatment during the changeover.

He received a massage on his neck and shoulder.Even if he was still feeling some discomfort, it didn’t seem to impact his game at all.

During the break after that set, Djokovic got his right forearm massaged. But once again, there were no signs of any issues when he was playing.

He’s clinched four titles in New York, with his latest win being in 2023.
