Today marks the 27th birthday of Google, the world’s most popular search engine. To celebrate, on Saturday, September 27, Google showcased its very first logo as the Doodle.
The company mentioned on its site, “We’re celebrating by getting nostalgic with our first ever logo. Search on”.
The Google Doodle is a temporary change to the company logo on the homepage to celebrate special events.
“As we celebrate Google’s birthday today, we reflect on our modest beginnings as a research project in a garage – a reminder that groundbreaking moments can emerge from everyday settings”, Google stated.
The special Doodle on Saturday honors the day Google was founded in 1998, aiming to organize the world’s information and make it accessible to everyone.
The doodle artwork features the very first logo, which instantly takes you back to the 90s.
In 1998, Larry Page and Sergey Brin started Google while they were working on their PhDs at Stanford University.
They first created a search engine called BackRub that ranked web pages by their backlinks.
Later on, they changed the name to Google.
The company skyrocketed in popularity thanks to its quick and relevant search results.
Over the years, Google has branched out into various products like Gmail, Maps, Android, Chrome, and YouTube.
The year 2004 saw Google’s IPO, which was a significant milestone.
In 2015, it became a part of Alphabet Inc., its newly formed parent company.
Nowadays, Google stands as one of the most powerful tech companies globally, influencing the internet and the way we advertise in the digital age.
A lot of Google’s growth is driven by its impressive performance in search, cloud computing, AI, and advertising.
