The ‘city of destiny’ is ready for the much awaited ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, starting this Thursday(October 9,2025).

The World Cup making its return to Andhra Pradesh after 28 years.

Officials from the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) and the Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association (VDCA) have put together extensive plans for this grand event.

The Dr. YSR ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium at PM Palem is primed to host players from India and South Africa.

On Wednesday, groundsmen were putting the final touches, while the entire stadium area was secured.

Dog squads and rope teams were actively performing security checks, with ACA officials supervising the last minute preparations at the venue.

Both teams have arrived in the city. Team India practiced on October 7, while the South African team trained on Wednesday.

It’s been almost ten years since the Indian Women’s team played a match in Visakhapatnam, although they did have a week long training camp at the same venue last month.

Cricket enthusiasts from all over the State, particularly from the Uttarandhra region, are eagerly looking forward to the matches.

The recent World Cup trophy tour has heightened excitement among the locals.

Visakhapatnam is set to host five matches in the tournament, including two featuring Team India. India will face South Africa on October 9, and then they’ll take on Australia on October 12.

The other three matches include South Africa vs Bangladesh on October 13, Australia vs Bangladesh on October 16, and England vs New Zealand on October 26. Except for the England vs New Zealand match, the rest will be played during the day and night.

Visakhapatnam has never seen a Women’s World Cup match before, but it did host a Men’s ICC World Cup match back in 1996, where Australia beat Kenya by 97 runs.

The last Women’s World Cup match in united Andhra Pradesh took place in 1997 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Vijayawada, featuring England against Pakistan, with England winning by 230 runs.
