Anyone can be an inspiration, no matter their age.

Just like Natalie Grabow, an 80 year old grandma from America.

Grabow learned to swim at 59 and is now the oldest woman to finish the Ironman World Championship.

Living in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, Grabow dove into the ocean at Kailua Bay, Hawaii, for a 2.4-mile swim.

After that, she hopped on her bike to tackle a tough 112-mile ride through lava fields and against coastal headwinds.

Finally, she ran 26.2 miles – the marathon distance – Note that the course had an uphill climb of over 1,000 feet.

Grabow finished the triple-challenge in 16 hours, 45 minutes, and 26 seconds, comfortably beating the 17-hour cutoff.

Out of over 1,600 participants, more than 60 didn’t make it to the finish line.

She was welcomed with loud cheers and a crowd chanting her first name as she crossed the finish line.

Grabow mentioned that she learned to swim specifically to take part in a triathlon. It was a significant hurdle I had to overcome. I’m so happy and thankful that I can still participate in this sport at my age.

She expressed, adding, “Triathlon lets me feel strong both mentally and physically, and it fulfills my competitive spirit”.

During the race, her daughter Amy and her coach Michelle Lake cheered her on from the sidelines.

The octogenarian was the only participant in the 80-84 age group for the women’s championship.

Cherie Gruenfeld completed the race at 78 years old in 2022.

Cherie Gruenfeld, the former record holder, was surpassed by Grabow.

The oldest person to finish the Ironman World Championship is Japanese male athlete Hiromu Inada, who was 85 when he competed in 2018.
