Lando Norris skillfully dodged early chaos to secure a commanding victory at the Mexico City Grand Prix from pole position.

He is taking the lead in the Formula One championship over his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri by just one point on Sunday (October 26, 2025).

Piastri, who began the race in seventh and was 14 points ahead of Norris, ended up finishing fifth after a late virtual safety car thwarted his chances of claiming fourth in an exciting chase.

Charles Leclerc finished second for Ferrari, trailing Norris by 30.3 seconds.

Max Verstappen, the reigning champion from Red Bull, clinched his sixth consecutive podium in third place, just 0.7 seconds behind Leclerc after a thrilling final lap.

Norris now holds 357 points, edging out Piastri’s 356, with Verstappen at 321.

Oliver Bearman achieved a career best fourth place for Haas, finishing 1.1 seconds ahead of Piastri as the chequered flag was waved by former heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield.

Hamilton received a 10-second penalty.

Kimi Antonelli finished sixth for Mercedes, with teammate George Russell in seventh and Lewis Hamilton in eighth for Ferrari after a 10-second penalty dropped him from third.

Esteban Ocon took ninth for Haas, while Gabriel Bortoleto from Sauber secured the final point.

Ferrari reclaimed second place in the constructors’ championship, one point ahead of Mercedes, while McLaren has already clinched the title.

Norris had a clean getaway from pole when the lights turned green but found himself in a four-way battle heading into turn one, with Verstappen cutting the corner and driving over the grass run-off.

Leclerc then cut turn two, relinquishing the position back to Norris, who emerged from the fray in front, while Verstappen gained a spot in fourth, much to Russell’s annoyance.

On lap six, Verstappen and Hamilton, who was in third, made contact while going side by side, with the Red Bull driver attempting to pass at turn one but ultimately cutting the next corner.

Hamilton went off at turn four, cutting back across the grass, and received a penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage. The collision led to no further action.

Hamilton took his penalty on lap 24, the Ferrari driver found himself in podium contention, rejoining the race in 14th and needing to battle his way back through the pack.

At that moment, Norris was 11.5 seconds ahead of Leclerc.
