One of the most comfortable modes of transportation is the train.

Riding a train in India is not just about moving from one location to another. You get to witness new landscapes, cultures, and stories unfold right outside your window.

Some routes are so stunning that the journey itself becomes the main attraction of the trip.

Every traveler should experience these two breathtaking train trips in India at least once.

The Konkan Train(Mumbai To Mangalore)

The Konkan Railway connects Mumbai and Mangalore and is famous for its gorgeous coastal views.

This roughly 750-km route winds through the Western Ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage site, showcasing a rich variety of sea views, waterfalls, forests, and rivers.

The railway was constructed with cutting-edge engineering for its time, featuring 91 tunnels, with the longest one measuring about 6.5 km.

Along the way, over 2,000 bridges turn the journey into a visual delight.

Kalka – Shimla Toy Train

It recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of the most beautiful train journeys in India.

Since it opened to the public in 1903, this narrow-gauge railway meanders through the Shivalik foothills, providing stunning views as it ascends towards Shimla, often called the “Queen of Hills”.

The journey takes about five hours, covering 96 km and going through 102 tunnels and over 800 bridges.

The path winds its way through vibrant green mountains and picturesque, misty vistas, as you enjoy the stunning scenery from your window seat.

The most breathtaking views can be found along the Kaushalya river, Koti, Barog, Kanoh, and Jabli.

The Barog tunnel is the longest, taking roughly three minutes to get through.

The Barog railway station is super clean, not too crowded, and really well-kept.
