Sophie Devine kept her cool in the last over, helping Gujarat Giants secure a narrow three-run victory.
Match Summary
Jemimah Rodrigues’ Delhi Capitals are set to face off against Ashleigh Gardner’s Gujarat Giants in today’s WPL 2026 match. This is Match No. 17 of WPL 2026 at BCA Stadium in Vadodara(January 27,2026).
It’s crucial for both teams, as the winner will nearly guarantee a spot in the top three, while the loser will find themselves closer to elimination.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Marizanne Kapp consistently bowled on a good length during the Powerplay and earned the wicket of Sophie Devine, who had looked promising in her short innings.
Coming in after Devine’s wicket fell, Anushka played some authoritative shots, hitting a flurry of early boundaries.
Anushka Sharma, who scored 39 at No. 3, provided solid support to Mooney.
Anushka Sharma and Beth Mooney’s strong 54-run partnership helped the Giants recover from that early defeat.
Mooney scored a solid 58 from 46 balls, while Anushka Sharma added 39 off 25 deliveries.
Anushka Sharma was at her fluent best but couldn’t keep it up for too long. The innings did lose some momentum towards the end as wickets tumbled at regular intervals, but a timely cameo from Tanuja Kanwer (21 off 11 balls) provided a helpful boost to the total.
The Gujarat Giants scored 174 for nine in their 20 overs.
For DC, left-arm spinner N. Shree Charani was the standout bowler, taking four wickets for 31 runs in four overs.
While chasing, DC’s performance with the bat was a bit of a rollercoaster right from the start.
In the first six overs, a combination of bold batting and erratic bowling led to a quick score, but DC also lost Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee early on.
Laura Wolvaardt and Jemimah Rodrigues seemed to steady the ship with a 31-run partnership for the third wicket.
However, in just 15 balls, Jemimah, Marizanne Kapp, and Wolvaardt were all sent back to the pavilion. Rajeshwari Gayakwad took three wickets during this period.
Niki Prasad was so close to winning it for her team, racking up 47 runs from 24 balls before getting out on the final ball.
She and Sneh Rana put together a solid 70-run partnership that nearly caught the Gujarat Giants off guard.
Delhi Capitals needed nine runs in the last over to chase down a target of 175, while Devine only gave up five runs. After dismissing Sneh on the fourth ball, she had Niki caught at long-on on the final ball.
Devine stayed strong, leading the Gujarat Giants to be the first team in WPL history to pull off a double against the Delhi Capitals.
