Google launches Gemini AI in Chrome, adding an AI assistant for instant answers and smarter browsing.

Google announced on Wednesday (March 11, 2026) that it is rolling out Gemini integration for Chrome to new regions, including India, Canada, and New Zealand.

According to TechCrunch, Google has expanded Gemini AI integration into Chrome to help users interact with AI directly while browsing the web.

Google first launched Gemini in Chrome in the U.S. with a floating window last September.

Earlier this year, the company introduced Gemini tools that are sidebar-based.

This update will allow users to access Gemini in Chrome via a sidebar on desktop, letting them ask Google’s AI chatbot questions about what’s on their screen, pull info from Gmail, Keep, Drive, and YouTube, and compare content across tabs.

Google has introduced support for various Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil, enhancing the AI’s accessibility.

Why Google Launches Gemini AI In Chrome

Google launches Gemini AI in Chrome to turn the browser into a smart assistant, letting users ask questions, summarize content, and complete tasks directly while browsing.

Users who gain access to this feature will notice an “Ask Gemini” icon on the tab bar, which they can click on for any tab to ask questions, summarize content, or even create quizzes to grasp a topic better.

Google mentioned that Gemini can also function across multiple tabs, meaning you can reference several tabs to get answers, which is super handy when comparing items for shopping or tickets for a trip.

It can respond to inquiries, summarize lengthy articles, create quizzes, or compare information across several open tabs.

The assistant also works with Google services like Gmail, Calendar, Maps, and YouTube, allowing for tasks such as drafting emails, scheduling events, or easily accessing contextual information.

Gemini can connect with various tools, gather your info, and provide more tailored responses.

For example, You can request Gemini to summarize a YouTube video and highlight the key points with timestamps. The assistant is also capable of scheduling meetings or giving you a rundown of your day.

Chrome’s Gemini 3.1 rollout in India brings AI-powered features like Nano Banana 2, letting users edit images directly in the browser—for example, visualizing furniture in a room before buying.
