Samsung has introduced a new 14-meter (46-foot) Onyx cinema LED screen at CinemaCon 2026, marking a strong move into larger Premium Large Format (PLF) theaters.

This expansion brings the brand’s signature visual performance and reliability to an even grander scale, designed to meet rising demand for more immersive theatrical experiences.

With this new format, Samsung is targeting theaters that want to maximize both impact and efficiency.

The larger screen size allows for improved seating layouts and better use of space, ensuring more viewers get a premium viewing angle without compromising comfort.

By scaling up its Onyx platform, Samsung is reinforcing its commitment to delivering cutting-edge cinema technology that enhances both presentation quality and operational flexibility.

At the same time, the move reflects a broader shift in the cinema industry toward experiential viewing.

As audiences seek more than just a movie, PLF theaters are becoming key differentiators for exhibitors.

Larger Onyx, Premium Leap

Samsung expands its Onyx lineup with a 14-meter cinema LED display, targeting high-end theaters. It builds on the 5m and 10m models while preserving the core Onyx experience.

The display supports 4K at 120Hz, ensuring ultra-smooth motion and sharp clarity. A refined 3mm pixel pitch keeps visuals consistent even at this larger scale.

Flexibility is a key advantage of this display. The screen can be extended up to 20 meters by adding LED cabinets along the sides and bottom, allowing theaters to create seamless, wall-to-wall visuals tailored to different auditorium layouts.

Brighter, Smarter Cinema

As the world’s first DCI-certified cinema LED display, Onyx supports both scope and flat aspect ratios. This ensures compatibility with a wide range of film formats without compromising visual integrity.

With HDR brightness reaching up to 300 nits, the display far exceeds traditional projection systems. It also delivers 100% color volume and infinite contrast, resulting in vivid, lifelike images.

The system integrates smoothly with Dolby and GDC media servers, combining high-end visuals with operational efficiency. This makes the 14-meter Onyx a powerful, future-ready solution for modern cinemas.

Expanding Global Footprint

Since launching the latest Onyx (ICD) lineup, Samsung has steadily expanded its presence in premium cinema spaces worldwide.

The new generation is gaining traction across flagship theater installations.

A standout example is Pathe Dar Essalam in Rabat, Morocco, a premium cinema complex in an upscale district.

Developed with Pathe’s headquarters, it is designed to mirror the flagship experience of Pathe Palace in Paris.

All four auditoriums at the venue feature Onyx displays in 10-meter, 5-meter, and scaled 6.4-meter formats.

This ensures a consistent, high-end viewing experience across different screen sizes.

Pathe now operates a total of 12 Onyx screens, including four of the latest models. This makes it the cinema chain with the highest number of Onyx installations in Europe.
