Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India on December 4-5, following an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This trip aims to enhance the ‘special and privileged strategic partnership and discuss both regional and global matters.

Next week’s visit will allow both nations to assess the progress in their relationship.

Putin has been making regular trips to India since October 2000, with his last visit to New Delhi occurring in 2021.

This visit is part of the annual bilateral summit tradition that started in 2000, with a total of 22 summits held alternately in India and Russia.

The most recent summit took place on July 8-9, 2024, in Moscow, where PM Narendra Modi was present.

Modi and Putin had a meeting in Tianjin on September 1 during the SCO leaders’ summit, which occurred from August 31 to September 1, where Modi confirmed that Putin would be visiting India this December.

During President Putin’s trip, both sides are looking to wrap up several bilateral agreements and unveil a bunch of new initiatives and projects. .
