On Tuesday, active Covid 19 cases in India went over the 4000 count, with five new deaths reported in the past 24 hours. The official dashboard from the ministry of health and family welfare shows there are 4026 active cases, with Kerala still leading the count.

A total of 171 new cases were reported, which brought the state’s active caseload up to 1,416.

Delhi experienced a notable rise in cases, with 124 new infections recorded, elevating its active case count to 393. Meanwhile, Maharashtra saw 69 new cases, which brought the active cases in the state up to 494. West Bengal noted 11 new cases, resulting in an increase of its active case count to 372.

On Monday, ICMR director general Rajiv Behl confirmed that genome sequencing of samples from southern and western India shows the recent rise in cases is due to sub-variants of Omicron, which aren’t considered severe.

“We’ve been keeping a close eye on things. Right now, we should stay alert and vigilant, but there’s no need to panic”, he stated.
