Following four defeats in the opening round, PV Sindhu advanced to the second round of the Singapore Open BWF Super-750 competition on Tuesday by defeating Canadian Wen Yu Zhang 21-14, 21-9. HS Prannoy defeated Rasmus Gemke of Denmark 19-21, 21-16, 21-14 after dropping the opening game.

Rakshitha Sree Santhosh Ramraj, Anmol Kharb, Malvika Bansod, Kiran George, and Priyanshu Rajawat all suffered defeats in their opening round contests. After defeating eighth-seeded Supanida Katethong of Thailand in the opening match, Malvika lost 21-14, 18-21, and 11-21 without making any headway. Anmol did well against Chen Yu Fei of China, ranked fifth in the world. The 18-year-old was actually defeated by the previous Olympic champion using her experience after Anmol led 17-14 and 20-18 in the second.

The last time Sindhu defeated Yu Fei was in the 2019 World Championship quarterfinals, but both players have won six of their 12 meetings on the BWF Tour.On Thursday,Yu Fei will play Sindhu.

In the first game, world No. 34 Prannoy was leading 17-11, but Gemke shocked the Indian with a stunning comeback, making it 14-17 and then moving from 15-18 to 20-18. Prannoy then dominated the Dane in the next two games, with his next opponent being Christo Popov of France, who defeated third seed Anders Antonsen of Denmark 21-17, 21-13.
