Punjab Kings, driven by an impressive unbeaten 87 runs off 41 balls from captain Shreyas Iyer, eliminated the five-time champions Mumbai Indians by five wickets in Qualifier 2, securing their place in the final. With the Indian Premier League now in its 18th season, it is assured that a new champion will be crowned.
Punjab Kings, who last reached the final in 2014, will take on four-time finalists Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Tuesday, June 3.
Captain Iyer delivered a magnificent innings, dominating the Mumbai bowling attack and hitting powerful sixes to secure a title match against RCB.
“I couldn’t sleep. I barely managed to get four hours of rest, and here I am,” Iyer shared with reporters before the IPL 2025 final.
“I headed to my room. The next thing I realized, I am here doing the PC”, the Punjab Kings captain mentioned.
Pursuing a challenging target of 204, Josh Inglis (38 runs from 21 balls) initiated the chase by scoring 20 runs off Jasprit Bumrah in one over. Captain Iyer subsequently partnered with Nehal Wadhera (48 runs from 29 balls) in a vital 84-run partnership over 7.5 overs, bringing PBKS close to victory.

With one over remaining, Iyer completed the task, hitting up to eight sixes in his knock.
Regarding his performance, Iyer remarked, “I have played the most knocks in the IPL”.
Iyer successfully guided the Kolkata Knight Riders to their third championship victory in the previous season.
