The game began more than two hours late due to rain in Ahmedabad.Punjab won the toss and chose to bowl before the rain came, even though they didn’t lose any overs.

The game finally began, with Varma and Bairstow scoring 51 runs between them after Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis dismissed India opener Rohit Sharma for just eight.Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav both scored 44, while Jonny Bairstow made 38 off 24 balls.

Mumbai was in a respectable position after another solid partnership of 72 between Varma and Suryakumar before both fell in three deliveries.

Naman Dhir’s 37 off 18 balls, however, helped the five-time champions reach a difficult total.Mumbai scored 203-6 in their 20 overs.

After, Australia’s wicketkeeper Josh Inglis ignited Punjab’s response with 38 off 21, including 20 off one over from India’s Jasprit Bumrah, a fast bowler.

Mumbai responded, though, when captain Hardik Pandya dismissed Inglis and they were only slightly ahead after Nehal Wadhera was dismissed for 48, with Kings requiring 48 runs from 26 balls.

With one over left, Shreyas, who was chasing 204 to win, smashed Ashwani Kumar into the stands after hitting eight sixes in his 41-ball knock. Shreyas kept his team in the game and, needing 23 runs from the next two overs, flipped the switch to hit four sixes in the 19th over in a decisive conclusion.

The player of the match, Shreyas, remarked, “I adore such large occasions”.

“I always tell myself and my teammates that the more composed you are, the better the outcome will be”.

In their first Indian Premier League final in eleven years, Punjab Kings defeated the Mumbai Indians behind a brilliant undefeated 87 from captain Shreyas Iyer.

The Kings will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final on Tuesday, which will also be held at Narendra Modi Stadium.

RCB has lost the championship game in 2009, 2011, and 2016, while Punjab’s lone prior final appearance was in 2014, when they were defeated by Kolkata Knight Riders.

Both teams have never won the IPL, and a new champion will be crowned.

With a brilliant undefeated 87, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer led his team to victory over the Mumbai Indians and their first Indian Premier League final in eleven years.
