Even after a nearly two-decade wait, Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their first Indian Premier League trophy in 2025, but Virat Kohli’s post-match remarks generated discussions well beyond the boundary lines.

An emotional Virat Kohli stole the show after RCB defeated Punjab Kings by six runs in a thrilling final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It wasn’t just his tears, turf kiss, or long-awaited trophy acceptance; it was a quote that left fans wondering: Was Kohli aiming at someone?

Kohli was questioned on the pitch by former Australia opener Matthew Hayden on the unwavering energy and intensity that still characterize his play. His response, which is currently trending, was incisive and sincere.

“Since I only have a few years to play this game, our career has a termination date, as you are aware. And I want to sit at home and say that I gave it my all by the time I hang up my boots. I therefore seek to get better. I can’t play as an impact player. In order to have an influence on the field, I would like to field for 20 overs. I am and have been that type of player”.

“I’m incredibly thankful for this win. I’m so grateful to God for finally placing it in my hands tonight”, Kohli wrapped up, adding yet another emotional touch to a night where RCB, along with their captain in spirit, was finally named champions.

Regardless, Virat Kohli has once again shown everyone why he is so much more than just a name on the roster.
