A Boeing 787 Dreamliner from Air India went down just after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The plane, which was headed to London, fell into the Meghani area of the city, creating a huge cloud of black smoke and prompting a swift emergency response.

As per the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the aircraft had 242 people on
board – 230 passengers, 2 pilots,
and 10 cabin crew members.Capt Sumeet Sabharwal was in charge of the aircraft, with First Officer Clive Kundar assisting him.

The flight was loaded with fuel for the long-haul trip, which intensified the explosion and fire that occurred after the crash. Numerous fire engines and ambulances have been dispatched to the crash site to conduct rescue operations.

At present, there is no official confirmation regarding casualties.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is anticipated to commence a formal investigation, possibly with a technical team from Boeing joining in.

Officials still haven’t put out a statement regarding what might have caused the crash. Experts are saying that the heavy fuel load for the international route might have intensified the fire after the crash, making rescue operations even tougher.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has had a chat with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel,State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner about the incident.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel showed deep sadness over the tragedy and
ordered officials to speed up rescue and relief operations at the crash site.

In a post on X, Patel mentioned that he had asked the administration to provide
immediate medical assistance for the injured passengers and to set up a green corridor to quickly transport them to hospitals.

“I’ve told the officials to jump into action for immediate rescue and relief efforts and to ensure that the injured passengers get treated right away”, he mentioned.

Patel also noted that Amit Shah had reached out to him directly and promised the central government’s full support in handling the aftermath of the crash.

He guaranteed that the Central government would offer all the necessary help to the state in dealing with the aftermath and investigation of the incident.
Air India, in its first official statement, said, “Flight Al171, which was flying from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, June 12, 2025. We’re currently working on gathering more details”.

The central government is working together to handle the aftermath of the crash.He confirmed that the Central government will offer all the help needed to the state in dealing with the aftermath and investigation of the crash.

Air India, in its initial official statement, mentioned, “Flight Al171, which was flying from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, June 12, 2025. We are currently looking into the details”.

Emergency services, such as fire trucks, ambulances, and city police, arrived at the scene promptly.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has confirmed that they quickly sent out three teams, totaling 90 personnel, from Gandhinagar, and three additional teams are on their way from Vadodara.

An emergency center is up and running, and support teams are ready to help families looking for information.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad put out a statement about airport operations,”On June 12, 2025, Flight Al 171 from Ahmedabad to London, Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff, just outside the airport”.
