Argentina’s football superstar, Lionel Messi, and his team Inter Miami, played to an exciting goalless draw against Egypt’s Al Ahly in their first match of the Club World Cup on Saturday night (June 14, 2025).
In front of over 60,000 fans at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami managed to get through a tough first half against 12-time African champions Al Ahly, who had a chance to score a winning goal from the penalty spot, but Trezeguet’s shot was saved by goalkeeper Oscar Ustari.
Inter Miami owed a lot to their experienced goalkeeper Oscar Ustari, who made several incredible saves, including a key penalty stop, ensuring his team didn’t lose at home.

With a strong contingent of travelling supporters, Al Ahly took charge early on and controlled much of the first half. Al Ahly had some clear opportunities, but Ustari, at 38 years old, thwarted Wessam Abou Ali and Emam Ashour with two fantastic saves.
His standout moment came just before the halftime whistle. After Mahmoud Trezeguet was fouled in the box by Maximiliano Falcon, the former Aston Villa player stepped up to take the penalty. However, Ustari guessed correctly and made the save to keep the score level.

Miami stepped up their game in the second half, with most of their offensive efforts funneled through Messi. The Argentine superstar almost scored a late winner with a powerful long-range shot, but Al Ahly’s Mohamed El Shenawy made an incredible fingertip save, deflecting the ball onto the crossbar.

A massive crowd of 60,000 fans filled the 65,000-seat stadium for the match, with some football legends in the audience. Club co-owner Sir David Beckham was spotted in the stands alongside Brazil’s Ronaldo, Italian icon Roberto Baggio, and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
As anticipated with American sports events, the game was packed with glamour and entertainment.
Moroccan-American rapper French Montana kicked off the festivities with a pre-match performance, while internet personality IShowSpeed participated alongside football legends Sergio Aguero, Pepe, Kaka, Alessandro Del Piero, and Youri Djorkaeff during halftime in a playful crossbar challenge.
