As more people search for the term ‘is today a holiday’ on Google Search Trends, a lot of Indians are left wondering if Monday, July 7, 2025, will be a public holiday due to Muharram.

Muharram signifies the start of the Islamic New Year, which was celebrated yesterday, on July 6, 2025 (Sunday), coinciding with Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram. It is the inaugural month of the Islamic calendar and one of the most sacred periods for Muslims. The day is observed by the Muslim community through prayers, religious gatherings, and mourning processions.

Banks Open Or Closed On July 7

This past weekend, banks all over India were closed on Saturday to celebrate Guru Hargobind Ji’s Birthday, plus they had their usual weekly day off on Sunday. On top of that, there are seven official bank holidays in July this year, as set by the RBI.

As per the RBI Calendar for 2025, Indian banks will be open as normal, with no holidays marked for Monday, July 7, 2025.

The RBI outlines bank holidays according to national and local events, operational needs, religious festivities, and various cultural practices.

It’s important for customers to know that despite the holidays, internet banking services remain fully functional on those days.
