A dog knack sensing danger ahead saved 60 valuable lives in Siyathi village, Mandi, on the night of June 30 when the monsoon chaos hit various areas of the district.

Fifteen individuals lost their lives and five others were hurt as efforts continue to locate the 27 people who went missing after 10 cloudbursts, which were followed by flash floods and landslides that struck the Mandi region during the night between June 30 and July 1.

A number of properties, totaling 1,184 houses, experienced significant damage, and sadly, 780 livestock lost their lives in the disaster.

Looking back on that night, a local recalled how it was pouring rain, and their pet dog, who was dozing off on the second floor of a tall house, suddenly started barking and howling like crazy.

The barking woke up the dog’s owner, Narender, who went to see what was up, only to discover a huge crack in the wall where water was leaking through.

Without wasting a moment, Narender sounded the alarm and got everyone else in the area up. More than 60 people rushed to safety, leaving everything behind, and before they knew it, a landslide had turned the village into a pile of rubble, the villager shared.

We’ve heard that dogs are thankful to humans, but this situation is the perfect example. Here, the dog is portrayed as the superhero.

Mr. Nadda was accompanied by former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jai Ram Thakur and state BJP chief Rajiv Bindal during his visit to Mandi.

He expressed his sympathy to the grieving families and promised them that the Centre was collaborating with the state government.

As per the data from the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), 174 roads were shut down, including 136 in the severely impacted Mandi district, while 162 transformers and 755 water supply projects were disrupted by Wednesday evening, resulting in the State incurring losses of about ₹740 crore.
