Cricket is making a big comeback at the Olympics during the LA Games, taking place at Fairgrounds Stadium in Pomena, which is roughly 50km away from Los Angeles. The medal matches are set for July 20 and 29, 2028, with the event kicking off on July 12, 2028.

In total, there will be six teams in both the men’s and women’s categories, with 180 players set to battle it out in the T20 format during this quadrennial event, which only hosted cricket once back in 1900.

No matches are set for July 14 and 21, and most matchdays will feature double headers, as per the competition schedule shared by the organizers.

The gentleman’s game was only played at the Olympics once, back in 1900 in Paris. Just two teams, Great Britain and France, faced off in a two day match, with Great Britain taking home the gold medal.

For the upcoming event, there are 90 athlete spots available across both men’s and women’s categories, allowing the 12 teams to form squads of 15 players each.

People can see how cricket is gaining traction, as three venues in the U.S. Grand Prairie, Lauderhill, and New York hosted multiple matches for the 2024 T20 World Cup, which is co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has given the green light to cricket, baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash, making them five new sports for the 2028 Games.
