Lakshya Sen along with the men’s doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty cruised into the second round with easy wins at the Japan Open on Wednesday (July 16, 2025).

In men’s doubles, Satwik and Chirag, who are ranked 15th globally, defeated the Korean pair of Kang Min Hyuk and Kim Dong Ju with scores of 21-18, 21-10 in only 42 minutes.

Satwik-Chirag needed a little time to get comfortable, as the Koreans kept pace with them in the opening game. But once they hit their stride, they were on fire, completely dominating the second game with impressive precision.

Next up, Satwik-Chirag are set to take on the fifth-seeded duo of Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang in the second round.

On another note, Lakshya, who has had a tough season with several first round exits, looked sharp as he took down China’s Wang Zheng Xing with scores of 21-11, 21-18.

World No. 18 Lakshya dominated the first game, quickly jumping to an 11-2 lead and finishing it off without any trouble. In the second game, Xing put up a stronger fight, but Lakshya used his momentum to maintain the lead and won the match in straight sets.

Up next, Lakshya is set to take on the seventh seed and local favorite Kodai Naraoka in the round of 16.

The 30-year-old Sindhu, a former world champion, lost 15-21, 14-21 to Korea’s Sim Yu Jin in the Super 750 tournament, which is her fifth first round exit this year.
