Kamna Shukla has set up a warm welcome for her astronaut husband, Shubhanshu Shukla, who is the pride of the nation and only the second Indian to go up in space.

Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, affectionately known as Shuks by his colleagues, friends, and now a growing number of fans, made his return to Earth after spending 18 days on the International Space Station this past Tuesday. He holds the distinction of being the first Indian to be on the ISS.

Currently, Shubhanshu is in quarantine in Houston, where Kamna is already present with their six year old son, Kiash.

With Shubhanshu back home, our top priority is to help him rehabilitate and ensure he transitions back to life on Earth without any hitches. For us, just being together again after this amazing adventure is a reason to celebrate, Kamna shared.

“I’m already getting some of his favorite meals ready, knowing how much he must have craved home-cooked food while he was up in space”.

Kamna has been in the US since Shubhanshu started his preparations for the SpaceX launch from Florida on June 25.

The couple tied the knot in 2009. They’ve been friends since Class 3 when they both attended City Montessori School in Lucknow.

Kamna mentioned that the phone calls from Shubhanshu were her favorite part during the 18 days he spent in space.

Getting his call from the International Space Station right after he docked was such a delightful surprise. Hearing his voice and knowing he was safe meant everything to me. Our chats usually focused on his daily routines, the cool experiments he was doing, and the amazing experiences he had, which were so different from life on Earth. Those phone calls were the best part of my day for those 18 days, she shared.

Shubhanshu has become a celebrity, with posters of him all over his home in Triveni Nagar, Lucknow, where his family has been flooded with congratulatory messages.

While the country celebrates his incredible achievement, our family will treasure quieter, intimate moments together. These joyful times, filled with familiar stories, laughter, and simple pleasures, are how we celebrate, Kamna expressed.

His return home is a lovely mix of personal joy and national pride, and we are so thankful for all the support and love we’ve received from all over the country, she added.

Kamna acknowledged that the long periods of separation due to space missions are tough. In many ways, these separations have only made their bond stronger.

Being apart is definitely hard and always comes with some pain. However, our journey with the Air Force has taught us to be resilient and adaptable, which has made these separations easier to handle over time, she said.

Kamna proudly talked about how Shukla transformed from a shy young man into the renowned astronaut he is today.

Seeing him engage so confidently and happily with students from space filled me with immense pride and joy. Watching his incredible change from a timid young man to a vibrant and inspiring individual who can motivate countless young minds is truly touching.

His journey showcases the amazing potential of personal development and resilience. His story is one that should be shared far and wide, and I’m thrilled to see him narrating it so well, always with a sincere smile, she mentioned.

At Lucknow’s City Montessori School, where he studied, Shubhanshu has become the new role model for students, many of whom aspire to be astronauts.

“I think this is absolutely wonderful. The core of Shubhanshu’s mission has always been to inspire the younger generation to explore STEM fields, innovate, and introduce advanced technology to India. Although the journey to becoming an astronaut is tough, it’s incredibly fulfilling. Those who embark on this path will not only find personal satisfaction but also bring great honor and pride to our nation”, she expressed.

Shukla is also involved in ISRO’s initiative to launch Gaganyaan India’s first human space flight in 2027.
