Star Indian badminton players Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made a strong entry into the second round of the men’s doubles at the Macau Open Super 300, defeating Malaysia’s Low Hang Yee and Ng Eng Cheong in straight games on Tuesday.
The champions of the Asian Games, who also climbed back into the top 10 of the BWF world rankings on Tuesday, delivered a sharp performance to dominate the Malaysian duo 21-13, 21-15 in only 36 minutes.
Earlier, Satwik and Chirag kicked things off with a strong start, jumping to a 6-1 lead. Even though the Malaysians narrowed the gap to 10-9, the Indian pair quickly took back control and won the first game 21-13.
In the second game, the Malaysians kept the heat on until it was 13-14, but the former world No. 1 Indian duo pulled ahead to 17-13 and clinched the match by scoring four points in a row.
In the women’s singles, Anmol Kharb and Tasnim Mir made it to the main draw after winning their qualification matches.
Anmol took down Azerbaijan’s Keisha Fatimah Azzahra with scores of 21-11, 21-13, and Tasnim beat Thailand’s Tidapron Kleebyeesun 21-14, 13-21, 21-17.
In the first round of the main draw, Tasnim will go up against the top seed Chen Yu Fei from China, while Anmol is set to face the second seed Busanan Ongbamrungphan from Thailand.
The top-seeded women’s doubles team of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand faced a tough first-round loss, battling hard but ultimately falling 21-16, 20-22, 15-21 in an hour against Lin Xiao Min and Peng Yu Wei from Chinese Taipei.
Apoorva Gahlawat and Sakshi Gahlawat were defeated by Malaysia’s Go Pei Kee and Teoh Mei Xing in the women’s doubles Round of 32.
The duo of Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra from the women’s team also advanced to the second round after a tough match against Chinese Taipei’s Zih Ling Huang and Wang Szu-Min, winning 21-15, 16-21, 21-17 in a challenging three-game battle.
In men’s doubles, Dingku Singh Konthoujam and Amaan Mohammad made it to the main draw after overcoming Hong Kong’s Law Cheuk Him and Yeung Shing Choi with scores of 21-18, 21-17. They are set to compete against their fellow countrymen Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Sai Pratheek K in the next round.
The mixed doubles team of Thandrangini Hema Nagendra Babu and Priya Konjengbam has also made it into the main draw, where they will face off against Thailand’s Phuwanat Horbanluekit and Fungfa Korpthammakit.
