The FASTag system, which is India’s electronic toll collection method overseen by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), is gearing up for a major upgrade with the introduction of the FASTag Annual Pass on August 15, 2025.

This new pass aims to offer convenience and savings for private vehicle owners who often travel on national highways and expressways. It also helps ease traffic jams at toll booths by cutting down on stop and go delays, leading to smoother and quicker highway trips.

Unlike the standard FASTag recharge method, the Annual Pass provides a prepaid option that allows for up to 200 toll crossings or one year of use, whichever comes first. This effort is designed to simplify toll payments, minimize repeated online transactions, and improve the overall travel experience.

Also, the pass allows for contactless
payments, making travel safer during
public health issues, and it works with
current FASTag accounts for easy
management. Find out about the FASTag Annual Pass, who can get it, how to buy it step by step, and how to use it after activation.

The FASTag Annual Pass is a prepaid toll payment option launched by the Government of India, aimed at non commercial private vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans.

Introduced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, this pass allows travelers to pay a set fee of Rs 3,000 upfront for either 200 toll transactions or a year of use from the activation date, whichever happens first.

With the Annual Pass, users don’t have to keep recharging their FASTag accounts throughout the year, making toll payments easier for those who frequently use the highways.

This pass is designed to work alongside the existing FASTag, so you won’t have to buy a new one. Instead, your annual pass will be connected to your current FASTag, as long as it meets all the eligibility criteria.

The FASTag Annual Pass is valid at toll plazas managed by NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) on national highways and expressways, but it doesn’t include local toll roads or state highways that aren’t part of the FASTag system.

Buying the FASTag Annual Pass is meant to be easy and done entirely online. The process is straightforward, safe, and convenient, letting users finish everything from signing up to paying without having to go to any physical places, which guarantees fast activation and smooth use on national highways.

Check out the official platform

Users can purchase the annual pass via the Rajmarg Yatra app or the official NHAI/MORTH website. These platforms ensure secure access to FASTag services.

Login or input vehicle and FASTag information

Users should log in with their registered mobile number or simply enter their vehicle registration number and FASTag ID if they aren’t logged in.

Check eligibility

The system verifies whether the FASTag is active, properly affixed, and associated with the right vehicle registration. It also ensures that the FASTag isn’t on the blacklist.

Make a payment

Once eligibility is verified, users can pay Rs 3,000 online through various payment methods such as UPI, debit/credit cards, or net banking.

Linking the Annual Pass

After the payment is completed, the Annual Pass gets linked to the current FASTag account and vehicle registration.

Confirmation

Users get an SMS confirmation letting
them know that the pass will be activated on August 15, 2025.

FASTag Annual Pass eligibility requirements

To qualify for the FASTag Annual Pass, you need to meet specific conditions,

Active FASTag

The FASTag currently on the vehicle needs to be active and not on any blacklist because of violations or outstanding payments.

Proper affixation

Make sure the FASTag is securely attached to the vehicle’s windshield so it can be scanned easily at toll booths without any problems.

Vehicle registration link

The Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) has to be accurately connected to the FASTag account. This connection ensures hassle free verification when paying tolls.

Private vehicle restriction

This pass is only for private, non commercial vehicles. Commercial vehicles, trucks, and buses can’t use this prepaid annual pass.

No blacklist status

If your account is blacklisted for fraud or violations, you can’t get the pass.

By meeting these criteria, the pass works smoothly with the FASTag system, allowing the vehicle to enjoy the prepaid benefits without any hiccups.

FASTag Annual Pass is activated on 15 August 2025. Once the FASTag Annual Pass kicks in on August 15, 2025, it lets your vehicle make up to 200 toll crossings on eligible highways and expressways for a whole year.

Every time your vehicle goes through a toll plaza that’s part of the FASTag system, one toll transaction gets deducted from that 200-trip limit. This pass makes toll payments cashless, so you won’t need
to worry about topping up or recharging until you hit the transaction cap or the validity period runs out.

Once either of those limits is reached, the system will switch back to the regular FASTag pay per use mode, and you’ll have to pay tolls like usual.

The FASTag Annual Pass is made to cut down on the hassle of constant recharging and to make toll plaza transactions smoother for those who travel frequently.
