For years, Apple has been keen on figuring out how to detect high blood pressure.

The Apple Watch Series 11 models hitting the shelves this Friday can alert users if they might have high blood pressure.

Thanks to a feature that uses artificial intelligence instead of a traditional blood pressure monitor.

The notification feature, compatible with models starting from the Apple Watch Series 9, was developed by utilizing AI models on current sensor data.

The condition impacts over 1 billion people worldwide, yet around half of the adults affected remain undiagnosed.

This is partly because the typical way to measure blood pressure, using a cuff known as a sphygmomanometer, is something most folks only see at their doctor’s office.

They aimed to discover features in the signal data from the watch’s primary heart sensor that could correlate with traditional blood pressure readings.

After going through several layers of machine learning, Apple developed an algorithm that was later validated through a specific study involving 2,000 participants.
