India and Pakistan clashed in the Asia Cup finals in Dubai on Sunday. Following the win over Pakistan, the Indian captain dedicated the victory to the victims of Pahalgam and the Indian Army.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav had stated that he would donate his entire match fee from the Asia Cup to the armed forces and the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of twenty-six individuals in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam back in April.

In response, India initiated Operation Sindoor against Pakistan two weeks later, targeting terror camps across the border.

Pakistan’s Cricket Team Follows Suryakumar’s Footsteps

Pakistan’s captain Salman Ali Agha, has shared that the team plans to donate their match fees to help the “civilians and children” impacted by India’s Operation Sindoor.

“As a team, we’ve made the decision to give our match fees to the civilians and children affected by India’s attack”, Agha mentioned during the post match press conference.

Pakistan’s captain also took a shot at the Indian cricket team after they declined to accept the trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi, who also heads the Asian Cricket Council.

Agha called India’s behaviour “disappointing”, adding, “They’re not just disrespecting us by not shaking hands; they’re disrespecting cricket. Good teams don’t act like that”.

He pointed out that the Pakistan team honored the spirit of the game by going to take photos with the trophy.

“We went to pose with the trophy (photo shoot) on our own because we wanted to meet our obligations. We stood there and accepted our medals. I don’t want to use harsh words, but they’ve been quite disrespectful”, he remarked.

The presentation ceremony kicked off after being delayed for more than an hour. Simon Doull, who was the presenter for the host broadcaster towards the end of the event, stated, “I have been informed by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that the Indian cricket team will not be collecting their awards tonight. So that does conclude the post match presentation”.

Meanwhile, India’s Kuldeep Yadav, Abhishek Sharma, and Tilak Varma picked up their individual awards from other dignitaries on stage, while Agha took the runners up cheque from PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

The Indian players didn’t acknowledge Naqvi at all. The ACC chairman also didn’t clap for the Indian players who came up to receive their personal awards.

Later, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia revealed that India had declined to accept the Asia Cup trophy during the presentation ceremony from ACC Chairman Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s interior minister.
