The debate over the champions not receiving the top prize continues to escalate.

In a post on X, Mr. Naqvi dismissed claims that he apologized to BCCI officials during the ACC AGM on Tuesday (September 30) for his actions at the presentation ceremony on Sunday (September 28), where he took the trophy after the Indian team declined to accept it from him.

Mr. Naqvi also serves as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and is the interior minister of his country, holding a strong anti India political stance.

Ashish Shelar and Rajeev Shukla represented the BCCI at the ACC AGM, where they voiced strong objections regarding the trophy not being properly handed over to the Suryakumar Yadav-led team that defeated Pakistan in the final.

“As ACC President, I was prepared to hand over the trophy that very day, and I remain ready now. If they genuinely want it, they are welcome to visit the ACC office and collect it from me”, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated on Wednesday (October 1, 2025).

“Let me be perfectly clear. I have done nothing wrong, and I have never apologized to the BCCI, nor will I ever do so”, he added.

His decision on this matter, which further frustrated the BCCI leadership.

The BCCI plans to escalate the issue to the ICC, which is scheduled to meet in November.
