Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu (48kg) snagged a silver medal at the World Championships in her weight class.

It adding to her impressive track record in this prestigious event where she has previously stood on the podium twice.

North Korea’s Ri Song Gum took home the gold with an impressive 213kg total (91kg + 122kg), setting new world records for both total and clean and jerk with her final two lifts of 120kg and 122kg.

Thailand’s Thanyathon Sukcharoen finished with a bronze, totaling 198kg (88kg + 110kg).

Chanu Challenges

Chanu faced some challenges in the snatch, missing twice at 87kg, but found her groove in the clean and jerk, nailing all three of her attempts.

A former world record holder in clean and jerk, Chanu lifted 109kg, 112kg, and 115kg with relative ease.

The last time she lifted 115kg was during the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, where she also earned a silver medal.

The 2017 world champion and 2022 silver medallist achieved a total lift of 199kg (84kg in snatch + 115kg in clean and jerk), marking her presence among the medalists after moving down from the 49kg category.
