This was the first true nail biter of the World Cup, and unfortunately, India came out on the losing end.

The South African team was filled with joy and celebration, while the Indian players were left feeling heartbroken.

Match Summary

After a short rain delay, South Africa chose to chase and quickly faced a storm of momentum from Richa, whose late surge saved India from a precarious 102 for six.

Even with a solid start, Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal were dismissed earlier than India hoped.

The batting lineup’s vulnerability against left arm spin was evident again, as Chloe Tryon and Nonkululeko Mlaba took advantage of the situation.

India faltered, losing five wickets for just 19 runs, but Richa and Sneh Rana’s 88 runs partnership shifted the momentum back towards India, putting pressure on the South Africans.

It took something extraordinary to overshadow Richa Ghosh’s impressive 94 runs(76 balls).

In the end, India managed to score 250 runs. They set a target of 251 for South Africa.

The chase struggled to gain traction, with Kranti Gaud taking out Tazmin Brits – who had just scored a stunning hundred against New Zealand – with an incredible catch.

Kapp was given a second chance early on when Pratika dropped a catch, but Sneh quickly sent her back to the pavilion with a well placed delivery that rattled the stumps. Luus also fell cheaply.

It wasn’t until Tryon arrived that Wolvaardt found reliable support, as the duo put together a 61-run partnership.

Harmanpreet Kaur turned to Kranti, who responded with a precise yorker that sent Wolvaardt’s middle stump flying.

Tryon then teamed up with Nadine de Klerk to push for a win that seemed increasingly out of reach.

By the end, Tryon was cramping and lost her wicket to a brilliant leg before wicket review by Sneh.

De Klerk lifted her teammates from the depths of despair with a flurry of boundaries off Kranti’s final over.

Shortly after, reminiscent of a previous India vs South Africa match, the Indian keeper went down cramping, halting the Protean momentum.

However, Nadine de Klerk was determined to shine, scoring an unbeaten 84 off 54 balls, which allowed South Africa to painstakingly chase down 251,defeating India by three wickets with seven balls remaining in an ODI World Cup league match at the ACA-VDCA Stadium on Thursday.
