On the third day of the second Test match between India and the West Indies, the West Indies showed incredible determination.

After India asked them to follow on, West Indies found themselves at 35 for 2 after tea, needing a comeback to steer clear of an innings defeat.

Campbell saved his best for the last session, countering with an unbeaten 87 while Hope added a steady 66.

Together, they formed an unbroken 138-run partnership, marking the only half centuries West Indies have achieved in this short series so far.

India, with their spinners in charge, had been in control earlier.

Left arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav (5/82) kicked things off with his fifth five-wicket haul in Test cricket, sending West Indies packing for 248 in their first innings.

Although India’s were thought to buckle under pressure, Campbell and Hope showed some smart aggression.

Campbell went after Jadeja and Kuldeep with well placed aerial shots, while Hope, gaining confidence, also took on the spinners, powering them for boundaries.

Their aggressive approach forced India to switch to defensive fields, including long-on, deep extra cover, and deep square leg, which let the duo manage the strike effectively.

The pitch didn’t really help the bowlers much, and you could see the fatigue in India’s spinners after those long spells.

Campbell, with nine boundaries and two sixes, along with Hope, who hit eight fours and two sixes, kept the scoreboard moving.

Their performance not only pulled West Indies back from the brink but also showed that some batters still have the skill and determination to play meaningful cricket when the pressure’s on.

With 97 runs still needed for India to bat again, West Indies are heading into Day 4 feeling more confident and ready to score some runs and restore their pride.

For India, the last session was a wake up call to keep up the intensity and focus.

Campbell and Hope shift the momentum a bit in their favor.
