Jammu and Kashmir’s legendary cricketer, Parvez Rasool, announced his retirement from cricket on Monday (October 20, 2025), more than a decade after he became the first player from the State to don the Indian jersey.

On October 3, 2018, Rasool became the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to play 100 List-A matches.

In a social media post, Rasool shared,”It’s been an incredible journey filled with dreams, hard work, joy, and countless memories that I will treasure forever. From local fields to representing my team and my country, cricket has given me everything I ever hoped for. I’m grateful to my family, coaches, teammates, and fans for their love, trust, and unwavering support throughout this journey. Every moment I’ve spent on the field has been a privilege and a blessing”.

He mentioned that while he was stepping back from professional cricket, he would keep playing for the love of the game and mentor young players.

He expressed his gratitude to the Jammu and Kashmir government for their support.

Rasool Career

Rasool played one ODI for India against Bangladesh in June 2014, and one T20I against England in January 2017.

Rasool was first included in the Indian squad for the Zimbabwe ODI series in 2013, which brought a lot of joy to the State.

However, his exclusion from the playing XI faced significant backlash. He would eventually represent India the following year.

Took Part In The IPL

He made his IPL debut in 2013 with the now-defunct Pune Warriors, calling it the ‘proudest day’ of his life.

He also played for Sunrisers Hyderabad for two years after that.
