On Monday, Pakistan named Shaheen Shah Afridi as the new captain for white ball cricket.

Afridi will lead the Men in Green in their upcoming ODI series against South Africa, starting on November 4.

He debuted in 2018 and has played 66 ODIs for Pakistan, taking 131 wickets with an average of 24.28.

The last time Shaheen captained Pakistan was in 2024, where he led the team against New Zealand in a 5-match T20I series that ended in a 2-2 draw.

He was later succeeded by Babar Azam, the same player he had taken the T20I captaincy from.

Currently, Afridi is with the Pakistan team, facing South Africa in Rawalpindi for the second Test that began on Monday.

In the first Test, Afridi took 4 wickets in the second innings, helping Pakistan defeat the World Test Championship holders and move up to second place in the WTC standings.

Prior to this, Afridi played for Pakistan in the Asia Cup, where he claimed 10 wickets, finishing just behind India’s Kuldeep Yadav.

Under Salman Agha, Pakistan ultimately finished as runners-up in the tournament, losing to India three times, including in the final.
