India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been hospitalized in Sydney.

He is currently in the ICU after experiencing internal bleeding due to a rib cage injury he sustained during the third match against Australia.

Iyer, who made an impressive catch running backward from backward point to dismiss Alex Carey, seemed to have injured his left rib cage in the process.

He was quickly taken to the hospital right after he returned to the dressing room on Saturday (October 25, 2025).

The BCCI medical team acted quickly after Iyer’s vital signs changed when he got back to the dressing room.

The team doctor and physio didn’t take any risks and rushed him to the hospital immediately.

Things are stable now, but it could have been serious. He should be okay soon.

Initially, Iyer was expected to be sidelined for about three weeks, but the recovery time may now be extended.

Since there has been internal bleeding, he will definitely need more time to heal.

At this point, it’s hard to give a specific timeline for his return to competitive cricket.

Shreyas Iyer is anticipated to stay in the Sydney hospital for at least a week before he is cleared to travel back to India.

He is not included in India’s T20 squad.
