A cloud seeding trial that was set for Wednesday (October 29, 2025) in the Capital has been postponed because there wasn’t enough moisture in the clouds.

The Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur (IIT-K) also confirmed this in a statement released on Wednesday (October 29), noting that the process relies heavily on the right atmospheric conditions.

IIT Kanpur mentioned that rainfall couldn’t be initiated as moisture levels hovered around 15 to 20%.

However, they added that the trial provided “valuable insights”.

Monitoring stations established throughout Delhi recorded real time fluctuations in particulate matter and moisture levels.

The data indicates a measurable decrease of 6 to 10% in PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations, suggesting that even with limited moisture, cloud seeding can help enhance air quality.

On Tuesday (October 28), the Delhi government carried out two cloud-seeding trials in partnership with IIT-Kanpur in various areas of Delhi, including Burari, north Karol Bagh, Mayur Vihar, and Badli.

Unfortunately, there was no rainfall in the Capital city.

Only minimal rainfall was noted in Noida and Greater Noida after the trials.

Following the trials on Tuesday (October 28), the government reported that the cloud-seeding efforts contributed to a reduction in particulate matter at the sites where the trials were conducted, even though the conditions were not optimal for it.
