At the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday(November 2, 2025), India defeated South Africa by 52 runs to win their first Women’s World Cup.

Batting first, the home team benefited from solid half-centuries by Shafali Verma (87) and Deepti Sharma (58), setting a total of 298-7, even though they seemed capable of reaching 350 at one point.

Deepthi Sharma showcased her all-round skills with impressive figures of 5-39, making it a memorable night for the home side.

Deepti also set multiple records during the tournament. She now holds the record for the most wickets by an Indian in a single Women’s World Cup, surpassing Shubhangi Kulkarni’s 20 wickets from the 1981-82 edition and Neetu David’s 20 wickets in the 2005 World Cup.

Additionally, she became the first Indian to achieve a five-wicket haul in a Women’s World Cup final.

Indian opener Smriti Mandhana made history by surpassing her fellow countrywoman and former captain Mithali Raj, achieving the best-ever ICC Women’s World Cup campaign by an Indian batter.

Laura Wolvaardt spearheaded South Africa’s chase with a captain’s innings of 101, but they were bowled out for 246 in 45.3 overs.

South Africa’s captain Laura Wolvaardt once again rose to the occasion, scoring a remarkable 101 off 98 balls in the Women’s World Cup final against India in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.

However, despite her heroic effort, South Africa fell short, and Wolvaardt’s valiant performance ended in disappointment as India lifted the trophy.

The 26 year old batter had a record-breaking tournament, finishing as the highest run-scorer in a single World Cup edition.

Wolvaardt accumulated 571 runs in 9 innings at an impressive average of 71.37, which included two centuries and three fifties.

Team India finally overcame the disappointments of the 2005 and 2017 World Cup finals, defeating South Africa to claim their first world title in both ODI and T20 formats.

India wins the men’s and women’s World Cups in a historic first-time double.

Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), announced a cash reward of ₹51 crore for the victorious Team India in the ICC Women’s World Cup.
