A new strategy is being used by Google Maps.

Powered by Google’s Gemini AI tech, the most widely used navigation app is set to become a more chatty companion thanks to a redesign revealed on Wednesday(November 5,2025).

This hands-free experience aims to transform Google Maps into a savvy passenger that can guide a driver to their destination while also suggesting nearby spots to eat, shop, or explore when asked for tips.

“No more fumbling – just ask away”, Google assured in a blog post about the app’s revamp.

The AI features are designed to make Google Maps more accurate by highlighting landmarks to indicate where to turn, rather than just relying on distance alerts.

AI chatbots, such as Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, have occasionally gone off track – a phenomenon referred to as “hallucinations” in tech lingo – but Google is assuring users that built-in safeguards will keep Maps from inadvertently leading drivers astray.

Gemini AI is set to change Google Maps into a more chatty experience.

All the info that Gemini uses will come from the approximately 250 million locations stored in Google Maps’ review database built up over the last 20 years.

Google Maps’ new AI features will be available on both Apple’s iPhone and Android devices.

The navigation app is used by more than 2 billion people worldwide, so this will give Google’s Gemini a large audience to either impress or disappoint with its AI capabilities.

During these updates, Google’s popular search engine underwent a complete makeover, focusing more on AI summaries and conversational responses provided through an AI mode rather than just providing relevant web links in its results.
