After a long 14-year absence, football star Lionel Messi is getting ready to return to India in December.

His first trip to the country was back in 2011 when he led Argentina in a memorable friendly match against Venezuela at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.

Messi’s tour across four cities in India is set to kick off in Kolkata on December 13.

On December 13, Messi’s schedule in Kolkata is jam-packed.

There will be a meet-and-greet at a luxury hotel.

After that, he’ll make his way to the Salt Lake Stadium, where he’ll be greeted by Bengali film stars during a dance performance.

He’s also slated to meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The event will include a brief football match between Mohun Bagan and Diamond Harbour, where fans might get the chance to see Messi take a few shots.

Additionally, Messi is expected to share the pitch with Indian sports legends like Sourav Ganguly, Bhaichung Bhutia, and Leander Paes.

The day will wrap up with a grand felicitation ceremony.

The itinerary also features the unveiling of a massive 70-foot statue of Messi in Lake Town.

However, it’s still undecided whether the event will take place virtually from the Salt Lake Stadium or if Messi will actually show up in Lake Town for the unveiling.

Messi will head to Hyderabad from Kolkata on December 13 in the afternoon.

The initial plan included stops in Kolkata, Mumbai, and Delhi from December 13 to 15.

On November 27, Messi shared the news via a Facebook post, expressing gratitude to his Indian fans for their incredible support.

“Thanks for all the love from India! The GOAT tour kicks off in a few weeks’ time! I’m excited to announce that Hyderabad has been added to my visits to Kolkata, Mumbai, and Delhi. See you soon India!”, he wrote.

Sachin Tendulkar and M S Dhoni are expected to join the Mumbai event.

On December 14, Mumbai will host the ‘Padel GOAT Cup’, featuring an exciting lineup of athletes and entertainers alongside Messi.

Among those rumored to be part of the celebrity lineup are Shah Rukh Khan, Sachin Tendulkar, M S Dhoni, and several other well-known Bollywood stars.

The tour is set to wrap up in Delhi on December 15, where Messi is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The capital will be the site of the final celebrations, completing a three-day schedule.

Messi’s journey through four cities, spanning the east, south, west, and north, marks one of the most significant celebrity sporting events that the country has ever seen.
