Messi is in India for a three-day “Greatest of All Time” (GOAT) tour. From Saturday to Monday, the iconic forward is set to visit Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Delhi for a packed schedule of exhibition matches, VIP meet-and-greets, and interactions with young aspiring athletes. Kolkata is the first stop on this tour.

The Salt Lake Stadium witnessed chaotic scenes as fans threw chairs and other items like bottles onto the pitch.

Police and security personnel were seen attempting to manage the situation while also shielding themselves from the objects hurled by furious fans after Lionel Messi exited the stadium in just 20 minutes.

Many fans had shelled out between Rs 3,800 and Rs 11,800 just to catch a glimpse of him. However, they were infuriated that they could hardly see him due to the crowd of VIPs and hangers-on surrounding Messi during his quick stop at the stadium.

Additionally, numerous fans expressed their disappointment that the star didn’t even kick a ball while at Salt Lake Stadium.

The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced the formation of an inquiry committee.

Director General (ADG) Law and Order Jawed Shamim informed the media that an FIR has been filed and the chief organizer of the event has been taken into custody.

CM Mamata Banerjee Apologises To Messi

“I’m really upset and shocked by the way things were handled today at Salt Lake Stadium. I was heading to the stadium to join thousands of other sports fans who were there to see their favorite footballer, Lionel Messi. I truly apologize to Lionel Messi and all the sports fans for this unfortunate situation”, Banerjee shared on X.

“I’m setting up an inquiry committee led by Justice (Retd.) Ashim Kumar Ray, with the Chief Secretary and the Additional Chief Secretary from the Home and Hill Affairs Department as members. This committee will thoroughly investigate the incident, determine who is responsible, and suggest ways to avoid similar issues in the future. Once again, I sincerely apologize to all sports enthusiasts”.
