Match Summary

Earlier, Chamari Athapaththu’s Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first against Harmanpreet Kaur’s squad.

Both teams made 2 changes, with Smriti Mandhana and Renuka Singh Thakur getting a rest, while G Kamalini, who is making her debut, and Sneh Rana stepped in.

For Sri Lanka, Inoka Ranaweera and Malki Madara returned to the lineup, replacing Malsha Shehani and Kawya Kavindi.

The match didn’t start as expected, with Shafali Verma, who had been stellar throughout the series, getting out cheaply in the second over.

Kamalini showed some promise with a few confident shots but couldn’t convert her start and fell while attempting a sweep.

With wickets tumbling at regular intervals, India found themselves in a tough spot at 77 for five wickets midway through the innings.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur took control. She started off cautiously, rotating the strike and building a partnership with Amanjot Kaur.

Harmanpreet’s blend of aggressive and smart batting helped India reach a competitive total of 175 runs, while Arundhati Reddy chipped in with a quick unbeaten 27 to set a defendable score.

In response, Sri Lanka put up a fight with half-centuries from Hasini Perera and Imesha Dulani but ultimately fell short, finishing at 160 for seven while chasing 175.

The Indian team utilized 6 bowlers, with each one claiming a wicket in a solid bowling display.

The night was truly special for Deepti Sharma, who became the highest wicket-taker in women’s T20Is, making history for India.
