Big tech companies like Google and Meta, along with AI-centric firms such as OpenAI and Perplexity, are investing billions into artificial intelligence.

OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, is considering displaying ads during conversations with the AI chatbot.

In the past few weeks, OpenAI’s team has been working on mockups that illustrate different methods of integrating ads within ChatGPT.

OpenAI has allegedly experimented with several ad mockups that feature sponsored content in a sidebar, and the team is also developing a disclaimer indicating that the results will include sponsored content.

Since its debut in 2022, ChatGPT has seen explosive growth, now boasting over 900 million active users each week, with a goal to expand that number to 2.6 billion by 2030.

The company led by Altman has gathered a wealth of information through in-depth conversations with ChatGPT, making it a potential treasure trove for advertisers aiming to boost sales.

OpenAI entry into the advertising space has the potential to upend the current market.

The current market, which is dominated by Amazon, Google, and Meta and accounts for almost 60% of the digital ad market (not including China).

It might take some time before OpenAI decides to include advertisements in its products because it’s still unclear whether or when ChatGPT users will see them.
