It seemed like everything was wrapped up as the Mumbai Indians easily took apart the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s top order. But fate had a twist in store.

Nadine de Klerk became the star of the show, leading RCB to a thrilling three-wicket win over MI in the opening match of the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season, held at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai(January 9,2026).

Match Summary

After winning the toss and choosing to bowl, RCB received a solid start from Lauren Bell, who bowled a maiden over.

MI opener Kerr struggled from the beginning and lost her wicket to Bell in the fifth over, scoring only four runs off 15 balls.

Good wicketkeeping from Richa Ghosh saw Nat Sciver-Brunt head back to the dugout for four runs off three balls.

Meanwhile, Shreyanka Patil ended the partnership between Kamalini and Harmanpreet Kaur, dismissing the former for 32 runs off 28 balls.

The MI captain then fell to Nadine de Klerk, scoring 20 runs off 17 balls.

S Sajana and Nicola Carey started to fight back for MI, and boundaries started to flow.

Sajana hit seven fours and a six, eventually getting out for 45 runs off 25 balls.

Meanwhile, Nadine de Klerk took the wicket of Carey, who scored 40 runs.

Mumbai Indians set a target of 154/6 in their 20 overs against RCB.

While chasing 155, Harris began well alongside her opening partner, Smriti Mandhana, but the RCB captain fell to Shabnim Ismail, scoring 18 runs off 13 balls.

Meanwhile, Grace Harris was dismissed by Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Amanjot Singh took out Hemaltha.

Radha Yadav was out for just one run off two balls, bowled by Kerr.

Then came De Klerk, who formed a solid partnership with Arundhati Reddy (20).

De Klerk was let off the hook twice in the 19th over, and a run-out opportunity was also missed.

In the final over, she smashed Sciver-Brunt for two sixes and two fours, leading RCB to victory. She also secured her half-century, finishing with an impressive 63* off 44 balls.

RCB managed to score 157/7 in 20 overs, making it a nail-biting finish.
