Delhi Capitals triumphed over UP Warriorz by 7 wickets in Match 7 at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai (January 14, 2026), breaking their two-match losing streak.

Match Summary

Earlier, DC captain Jemimah Rodrigues won the toss and chose to bowl first.

The Delhi team is fielding the same XI as before, but the Warriorz have brought in South African all-rounder Chloe Tryon to replace West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin, who scored 40 not out off 37 balls in the previous match against RCB but gave away 32 runs in a single over.

After being invited to bat first, the Warriorz had a rough start as Kiran Navgire continued her struggle, getting out for a duck in the very first over thanks to an early strike from Marizanne Kapp.

This early blow put the innings under pressure, but Meg Lanning and Phoebe Litchfield steadied the ship with a quick 47-run partnership for the second wicket off just 34 balls.

Litchfield looked in good form during her time at the crease, hitting five boundaries in a rapid 27 off 20 balls before Sneh Rana caught her out with a sharp stumping.

Lanning found her rhythm again, scoring her first WPL fifty of the season, reaching the milestone in just 32 balls.

She received solid support from Harleen Deol, as the duo put together a crucial 85-run partnership for the third wicket, putting the Warriorz in a strong position.

Lanning eventually fell for a well-crafted 54 off 38 while trying to up the tempo, getting caught by Chinelle Henry off Nandini Sharma.

In a surprising twist during the 17th over, Harleen Deol was retired out, becoming only the second player in WPL history to be retired out after Ayushi Soni.

Unlike Soni, Harleen seemed at ease, scoring 47 off 36 balls with seven fours and playing a vital role in stabilizing the innings.

However, the momentum completely shifted in the final overs. The Warriorz faced a shocking collapse.Warriorz only managed 154/8 in 20 overs.

Marizanne Kapp and Shafali Verma each took 2 wickets.

The Capitals started their run-chase cautiously, with Lizelle Lee and Shafali Verma playing it safe at first.

The opening duo only managed to score 30 runs in the initial overs, opting for safety over style before they gradually found their groove.

Lee made sure Delhi ended the powerplay on a high note, scoring 16 runs in the last over by smashing Chloe Tryon for two back-to-back fours followed by a six.

Shafali and Lee kept building their partnership steadily, mixing confidence with controlled aggression to stretch their stand to 94 in 11.3 overs.

Just when it looked like the Capitals were cruising, Deepti Sharma gave UP Warriorz a breakthrough by getting Shafali out for a solid 36 off 32 balls, which included six boundaries.

Lee, however, remained unfazed, continuing her great form and reaching her second consecutive half-century, this time off just 31 balls.

Lee ended up being the top scorer with a smooth 67 off 44 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes, before Asha Sobhana finally ended her innings.

At that point, Delhi was in a strong position, needing 41 runs from 32 balls with eight wickets still in hand.

The match took a tense turn when Jemimah got out for 21, giving Deepti her second wicket, which left Delhi needing seven runs off the last over – a situation that reminded everyone of their recent slip-up against Gujarat Giant.

Sophie Ecclestone started with a dot ball, but Marizanne Kapp hit a crucial four in response.

After two more dot balls, it came down to one run needed off the final delivery.

Wolvaardt calmly sliced through the off-side field for a four, finishing unbeaten on 25, and clinched a hard-fought victory for the Capitals.

UP Warriorz are still searching for their first win, having lost all 3 of their matches.
