As the Sydney Sixers narrowly defeated David Warner’s Sydney Thunder in an exciting T20I match.

Steve Smith set a Big Bash League record by hitting 32 runs in a single over on his way to a century off 41 balls.

The seasoned player, just back from leading Australia to an Ashes series win against England, smashed four consecutive sixes off a shocked Ryan Hadley during his record-setting over on Friday evening (January 16, 2026).

This performance secured a five-wicket victory for the Sixers at the Sydney Cricket Ground, overshadowing his long-time Australia teammate Warner, who scored an impressive 110 not out off 65 balls, setting Smith’s team a target of 190 to chase.

Smith partnered with Pakistan’s Babar Azam (47 off 39) to create a solid 141-run opening partnership and briefly looked like he might break the record for the fastest BBL century (39 balls).

He was eventually stumped by Sam Billings for 100 after stepping down the wicket to Tanveer Sangha, having hit five fours and nine sixes.

This win pushed the Sixers up to fourth place on the BBL ladder, while the Thunder remained at the bottom.
